The Early Years

Adam Loftus Lynn became the first practising solicitor in Ballarat in 1853, shortly after spending time on the local goldfields. He played a significant role in the region's early legal history, including active involvement in the Public Inquiry following the Eureka uprising of 1854.

Mr Lynn was briefed to represent the relatives of miner James Scobie, whose death at the hands of Publican James Bentley – and the authorities' controversial handling of the case – was a key event that contributed to the Eureka Stockade.

Our Guidance

Throughout our long history, Curwen Walker Lawyers has been guided by strong leadership and a commitment to serving the Ballarat community. Henry Cleburne Curwen-Walker practised in Ballarat as an Attorney, Solicitor, and Proctor of the Supreme Court of Victoria between 1892 and 1920, establishing the foundation for one of the region's most enduring law firms.

Over the decades, the practice built a reputation as a leader in Business Law, Wills and Probate, Leases, and Contract Law, providing trusted legal advice to individuals, families, and businesses across Ballarat and the Central Highlands.

In November 2019, Tom Sullivan became the Managing Director of Curwen Walker Lawyers. Under his leadership, the firm continues its long-standing tradition of delivering modern, high-quality legal services, combining local knowledge with practical expertise to meet the needs of today's clients.
